Nick and Massi are both NYC natives, who met while studying at Pratt Institute where they majored in jewelry design. They quickly became friends and went on to work together designing and fabricating jewelry.
Not shortly after they took a life altering journey to Japan. They instantly fell in love with its culture and decided to teach, work and live in the Yokohama area of Japan.
1 ½ years later, Nick and Massi were ready to return to there hometown of NYC. Armed with their experiences in a vastly different culture they opened Studio Mocci in the fall of 2007
The story behind Studio Mocci.
While in Japan Massi worked as an assistant English teacher for the public schools system in Yokohama. When her students learned that she was moving back to The United States, they decided to write her a series of good bye letters. Although they had difficulty in spelling her name, they did their best and came up with ‘Mocci’.
Both Massi and Nick thought that this cultural ‘hiccup’ encapsulated their time in Japan in a rather “clever” manner. It also seemed like a great idea to name their business after an experience they will both never forget. Thus Studio Mocci was born.
Nick and Massi’s studio is located between the popular Brooklyn neighborhoods of Williamsburg and Greenpoint.
